William Daley, Rudolf Staffel, Paula Winokur and Robert Winokur are four artists who have had a major impact on the larger artistic field as well as the educational landscape of ceramics in Philadelphia. They served as leaders of ceramic departments at three local colleges (Tyler, Arcadia, and University of the Arts), serving as mentors to students for decades. The Clay Studio will celebrate them, our own honorary ACC Fellowship, and the strong network of craft artists in the region.
October 30, 2015 – January 16, 2016
The Center for Art in Wood
141 N. 3rd Street
Featured artists will include Sharon Church (jeweler), David Ellsworth (wood turner), Michael Hurwitz (furniture maker), Bruce Metcalf (jeweler), and George Nakashima (furniture maker). In 2011, the Center mission expanded its traditional promotion of wood turning to also include sculpture, design, and other forms of wood art. This exhibition will be unique in that it presents virtuosic artists working with wood along a broad spectrum of media covered within our mission, from furniture and jewelry to wood turned vessels and sculptural objects.
